Missouri River Country
We left Broadus and headed to Zortman, gold mining country. We are 20 miles from the Charles Russell National Wildlife Refuge and Upper Missouri River Breaks National Monument, Lewis and Clark country. Rugged and beautiful is an understatement. Unfortunately we had light rain which made picture taking difficult but we did manage to get a few shots.
We drove over to Landusky which has a colorful history that includes Kid Curry. We started down a back country road but stopped and turned around, the road turned real narrow and muddy.
As we gazed into the Missouri River channel it is hard to imagine pulling barges up the river against the current. How tough the men on the Lewis & Clark expedition were. The men ate 5 pounds of meat a day! I saw people fishing, any luck I asked, yes, Paddlefish are biting!
We have been watching the news about the Canadian wildfires which have closed part of the Alaskan highway. British Columbia and Alberta have more than a 100 fires of which several are out of control. Several cities have been evacuated, so with heavy heart we have decided not to try and go to Alaska. The smoke would be very irritating and would ruin the beautiful scenery.
We will continue to travel in Montana and Wyoming.
